Parasailing Accidents
Parasailing is offered on most of Florida’s beaches. It is either provided by independently owned companies or by oceanfront hotels and resorts. Although parasailing is one of the most popular vacation adventures, it is also one of the deadliest. More and more tourists are killed each year in parasailing accidents in Florida and abroad.
Many of the companies that own and operate parasailing businesses fail to follow state and Federal regulations. In many cases, the required licenses and certifications on the equipment is not up to date. Additionally, the actual operators of the parasailing equipment have little to no training in how to correctly use a parachute and have absolutely no medical training should a user require it.
Sadly, most of Florida’s parasailing companies do not have the appropriate commercial and individual operator licenses and fail in staffing the vessel with those that can monitor the parasail riders and offer medical attention in an emergency. Furthermore, many parasailing companies operate the vessels and use the parasailing equipment in unsuitable weather conditions. Often they will secure customers for rides in windy weather that brings riders too close to other boats, buildings and other land structures.
